Indonesia and Serbia Strengthen Trade and Technology Cooperation

During the fifth Bilateral Consultation Forum in Jakarta, Indonesia and Serbia have committed to enhancing their bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including trade, industrial development, food and energy security, and emerging technologies. The discussions focused on exploring new opportunities and strengthening existing ties between the two nations.

One significant area of interest is mineral exploration, with Indonesia inviting Serbia to collaborate on nickel processing and electric vehicle supply chains. The two countries are also keen on exploring advancements in artificial intelligence, data centers, semiconductors, and digital transformation.

Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Serbia has shown promising growth, averaging a 20.62% increase annually from 2021 to 2025, ultimately reaching $53.6 million in 2025. Both nations are considering a potential free trade agreement and are planning to establish a joint economic commission aimed at expanding trade and improving access to Central and Eastern European markets.

In addition to trade, the forum also highlighted investment opportunities, industrial production, and employment cooperation. A key aspect of their discussions was exploring government-to-government arrangements to enhance the legal protection of Indonesian migrant workers residing in Serbia.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity while planning to convene the sixth Bilateral Consultation Forum in Serbia, with the date yet to be determined.
