Iran Claims US Actions Threaten Regional Stability, Impacting Global Oil Markets

Tensions between Iran and the United States escalated once again as Iran accused the U.S. of breaching a ceasefire following recent American strikes on missile launch sites and mine-laying vessels in southern Iran. These developments have reignited concerns in the region and caused global oil prices to rise sharply, with Brent crude seeing an increase of more than four percent after the strikes were announced.

The Iranian foreign ministry condemned the U.S. for conducting attacks in the Hormozgan region, despite the ongoing ceasefire agreement, and issued a warning that Iran would retaliate against any future hostile acts. Reports from Iranian media indicated explosions occurred near Bandar Abbas, not far from the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Guards claimed that they intercepted a U.S. drone and engaged with an American fighter jet as it approached Iranian airspace.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio defended the strikes, describing them as acts of self-defense to safeguard American forces from looming threats. He assured that diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict continue in Qatar, emphasizing the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for global maritime trade, which he declared must not be disrupted.

Amid these tensions, Iranian officials mentioned that negotiations are ongoing for a potential agreement that might involve the unfreezing of billions of dollars of Iranian assets as part of a broader strategy to end hostilities. In a related regional development, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged tougher measures against Hezbollah, as Israeli military operations reportedly intensified along the Lebanese border.

China has stepped in, calling for both Iran and the U.S. to adhere to the ceasefire and resolve their issues through peaceful dialogue. Meanwhile, in Iran, internet services have slowly begun to return after months of widespread restrictions, with government authorities confirming that restoration efforts are gradually being implemented.
