India and Azerbaijan Explore Enhanced Cooperation During Jaishankar’s Baku Visit

In a concerted effort to bolster bilateral relations, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on October 23. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between India and Azerbaijan, furthering the dialogue that has been ongoing between the two nations.

The visit by Jaishankar included discussions with his Azerbaijani counterpart and emphasized reviewing and enhancing the countries’ bilateral relations. This event follows a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening ties. Earlier in the month, India’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abhay Kumar, presented his credentials to President Aliyev, reaffirming India’s commitment to fostering stronger relations.

During the meeting, Minister Jaishankar conveyed greetings from Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing appreciation for President Aliyev’s positive stance on bilateral cooperation. The discussion is a continuation of efforts that have seen increased communication, including a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Aliyev at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on September 1.

Further illustrating the commitment to regional stability and cooperation, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, visited Baku earlier in October. Singh’s participation in the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) underscored India’s focus on peace and collective action against cross-border terrorism.

The ongoing dialogues between India and Azerbaijan highlight a mutual interest in exploring shared opportunities and addressing common challenges, marking a significant step towards a strengthened partnership. The recent meetings are indicative of a sustained diplomatic engagement aimed at fostering increased collaboration between the two nations.
