Heavy Rain Sparks Orange Weather Alerts in Six Bulgarian Districts

Bulgaria is bracing for significant weather disruptions on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, as the national meteorological service has issued orange-level weather warnings for six districts due to anticipated heavy rainfall. The affected districts include Kurdzhali, Haskovo, Yambol, Bourgas, Varna, and Shoumen, where rainfall is expected to be particularly intense. Additionally, yellow-level alerts have been announced for most other regions in the country, indicating potentially dangerous weather conditions.

Forecasts predict that central and eastern areas of Bulgaria will experience intense rainfall, while the southwest is expected to see precipitation weaken and eventually cease. Moderate northerly winds are anticipated across the nation, with a temporary increase in strength in the eastern regions. Temperatures are projected to range from 10°C to 15°C, with Sofia reaching around 11°C.

In mountainous areas, the weather will be cloudy, windy, and rainy, with snowfall expected at elevations above approximately 1,700 metres. Notably, the central Balkan Mountains, the Rhodope Mountains, Strandzha, and Sakar are likely to receive significant precipitation. Temperatures in these regions are forecasted to be around 6°C at 1,200 metres and approximately 1°C at 2,000 metres.

Along the Black Sea coast, residents and visitors should prepare for cloudy skies, rain, and strong winds, with locally heavy precipitation possible during the afternoon. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 15°C and 17°C, while sea temperatures are anticipated to be between 20°C and 21°C. A yellow-level warning for strong winds and waves has also been issued for the coastal areas.

Sofia City, Pernik, Kyustendil, and Blagoevgrad are the only districts without any weather warnings, providing a small reprieve from the adverse conditions expected elsewhere in the country. Residents and travelers in affected areas are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety amid the forecasted heavy rain and strong winds.
