With the autumn and winter months ushering in a quieter travel season, airlines operating between the UK and Spain are slashing prices to entice travelers and fill their planes. Major carriers such as Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air, Vueling, Iberia, Iberia Express, and Air Europa have introduced promotional fares, with some one-way tickets priced as low as £14.99 or €16.
Ryanair, in particular, is promoting flights for September and October from £14.99 on routes like London to Castellon, Barcelona, and Valencia. As November and December approach, fares increase slightly, starting at around £19.99. In a similar vein, easyJet has unveiled a sale featuring over 780,000 seats with discounts of up to 20% on selected routes. Passengers can find fares such as Gatwick to Alicante, Bristol to Malaga, and Luton to Barcelona from £18.99, with some October flights to Palma available from £15.99.
Meanwhile, Wizz Air is expanding its footprint in the Spanish market by opening new bases in Valencia and Madrid come November. This expansion is set to heighten competition with Ryanair as new routes are introduced. Spanish carriers are also in the thick of the price competition. Vueling is offering discounts of up to 20% on 110,000 seats, with international fares starting from €16. Iberia is advertising domestic flights from €24 and selected European destinations from €29, while Air Europa’s anniversary sale features fares starting at €25.
The wave of discounts is primarily aimed at maintaining demand following the busy summer travel period. However, travelers should note that the lowest fares typically include only a small under-seat bag, with additional costs for seat selection, cabin luggage, and checked baggage. Travel experts advise that the best deals can often be found by comparing airlines on flexible midweek dates, especially in October, November, and January, when fares are generally lower compared to peak holiday periods.
